I can’t complain about any event involving Dumbledore passing out complimentary peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and gallons of free grocery-store brand Kool-Aid.

Any grown man singing “Like a Prayer” at the top of his lungs while Uncle Monsterface the Sock Puppet jumps around in the background has my full respect.

And Math, the Band — they’re nothing like those stupid multiplication table songs we had to learn in elementary school. They’re actually almost pretty hardcore.

But I ultimately subjected myself to this fabulous festival at Cat’s Cradle last night for Harry and the Potters, the nerd rock geniuses who write lyrics exclusively about Harry Potter books.

Yeah, I know, I’m a huge Harry Potter nerd. Laugh. But last night was spectacular. After the release of the final book last year, I’ve been kind of bummed. After the movies finish premiering, I’ll never get to experience that brand-spanking-new-Harry-Potter-ness sensation ever again. It’ll all be over. I’ll never spend another midnight at Barnes and Noble sucking down triple iced lattes and waiting for my number to be called. Darnit.

And Harry and the Potters are more or less done touring, too. So this was a once-in-a-lifetime chance, and that’s how I justify it to myself.

It was amazing. I’m glad there are 400-some-odd people in the Triangle who aren’t ashamed to sing “Save Ginny Weasley from the Basilisk” at the top of their lungs.

I’m glad I’m not too cool to hop in the mini-van with my parents, my sister and her friend, or too snobby to do the hokey pokey with random strangers. I’m also glad I posses a good enough sense of humor to laugh at myself for being silly.

Unlimited Enthusiasm is exactly what I needed. I’ve been running on empty for a week and facing all sorts of small disasters. I needed to go out and act stupid in a relatively safe and contained environment. Hakuna matata, etc…
